SGS Accra Laboratory Partnership – 100% First-Pass Assay Acceptance Across 312 Shipments
From 2023 to 2025, CM MINING partnered with SGS Accra Laboratory to validate 412,000 kilograms of gold and 89,000 metric tons of copper concentrate sourced from Ghanaian operations. This collaboration covered 312 high-value shipments destined for refineries in Switzerland, Dubai, and China representing $11.4 billion in facilitated trade under LBMA, EUDR, and OECD compliance frameworks.
Challenge
Global buyers increasingly rejected shipments due to assay discrepancies between field samples and lab results a risk amplified by Ghana’s humid climate affecting sample integrity during transport. Even minor variances (e.g., 0.3% gold purity) triggered costly reprocessing or contract penalties.
Solution
CM MINING and SGS Accra co-designed a sealed-chain protocol: tamper-proof sample containers with GPS-tracked custody logs, immediate on-site drying, and same-day lab intake. Field teams used calibrated XRF devices pre-submission, while SGS implemented dual-assay verification (fire + ICP-MS) for all batches over 500 kg. Digital reports were auto-synced to buyer portals within 4 hours.
