Juba Field Verification Network: Real-Time Provenance for $4.1 Billion in South Sudan Gold
Between 2022 and 2025, CM MINING and the Juba Field Verification Network (JFVN) established the first scalable, real-time provenance system for gold exports from South Sudan. The partnership verified 56,300 kilograms of gold across 89 shipments facilitating $4.1 billion in trade to refiners in Dubai, Switzerland, and Turkey while fully complying with EUDR, OECD, and UAE Central Bank requirements.
Challenge
South Sudan’s informal mining sector lacked standardized licensing and origin tracking. Without verifiable proof of legal extraction, global buyers refused material due to conflict-minerals risk. Manual record-keeping led to delays, errors, and audit failures blocking market access despite high-quality ore.
Solution
CM MINING co-developed a digital verification platform with JFVN: GPS-tagged collection points, biometric miner registration, and blockchain-backed custody logs. Field officers validated operator licenses against national registries and uploaded data in real time even offline via ruggedized tablets. Every batch received a unique QR code linking to its full dossier, accessible to buyers pre-shipment.
